Mission

AATY is an affiliated association of the African Language Teachers Association (ALTA) and the National Council of Less Commonly Taught Languages (NCOLCTL).

AATY organizes language-specific panels for inclusion in the ALTA/NCOLCTL annual conferences. The yearly panel usually focuses on a broad range of topics concerning all aspects of Yoruba language teaching and learning.

This conference panel usually serves as the association’s annual business meeting. AATY is governed by a board of executives elected by its members every two years. Executive members hold meetings on an ad hoc basis throughout the year.

AATY occasionally sponsors graduate student members for professional development.

AATY has collaborated with another center to publish a journal on Yoruba education while AATY members have contributed numerously to the ALTA/NCOLCTL journals and Newsletters which are distributed to members and participants at the annual conferences.
